Diamond`s Debut Double

Thursday, 17th Aug 2017

Andy Ryan - "I am just delighted to be here."

Andy Ryan scored against Arbroath on Saturday in his final match for Airdrieonians and on Tuesday night it was the same opposition that he knocked two more past in his debut for Dunfermline Athletic. The 22 year old signed a two year deal at East End Park in time to face Dick Campbell`s team in the Irn Bru Cup. He called his debut the ideal start.

"Obviously with the deal being done late on Monday night I wasn`t really expecting to start but was just delighted to start. As a centre forward the first goal you score is crucial and the longer that drags on the harder you try."

His opening goal came in 24th minute and it was a good finish to top it all off. He continued:-

"It was a great finish, I had to keep my eye on the ball and concentrate on hitting the target. Luckily for me it went in."

The new boy followed that up with a second before half time and admitted that there had been a good chance of making it a debut hat trick.

"For my first game I will take my two goals. The move to Dunfermline came out of the blue for me. When I heard that they were interested it was a great opportunity for me at a big big club. The manager here is a big thing for me too. I think he can develop me as a player and take me to the next level in my career. I am just delighted to be here."

Andy revealed that it had been a `crazy` couple of days since he found out on Sunday night.

"Next thing I knew I was meeting the manager, signing papers and things like that. So I was happy to get out on the pitch and get minutes under my belt.

"It is a great club with a great fan base here, I just want to work my way into the team, so it was an ideal start for me.

"I was hearing bits and bobs over the last month at Airdrieonians but you just keep your head down and try and be as professional as possible. I think I did that and gave my all in every single game I played."

Ryan`s arrival is the Pars sixth summer signing, following the captures of Jean-Yves M`Voto, Declan McManus, Aaron Splaine, Dean Shiels and Fraser Aird.

Andy had spell at Hamilton before dropping down the leagues and going full time at Airdrieonians. He scored 27 goals for the Diamonds in 39 appearances in season 2016-2017. He added:-

"I am just trying to work my way back up and this proves that it was the right decision."

First impressions for the striker was that he has creative players around about him who can supply him with goalscoring opportunities:-

"I am just feeling my way. I don`t know how the players play and haven`t attended a training session yet. I just had a wee word before the game and just told me to make the runs. When you have quality players behind you, if you make the runs they will find you."
